CORNERSTONE NETBALL CLUB

Cornerstone Netball Club is sponsored by Cornerstone Building Services, AWAX Security and Eastleigh Baptist Church.

Cornerstone Building Services is run by Jez Hewlett, a local man who believes in good, honest Christian morals when carrying out his work. He became a Christian about 1½ years ago and thanks God for helping him overcome some major and difficult times in his life. Jez is due to go on a short-term mission to Uganda where he can use the building skills God has given him to help construct schools for orphan children. He also helps people ‘closer to home’, assisting those who have fallen on hard times with their building needs, helping make their lives more comfortable.Jez wants to support a local netball team consisting of Christians, seekers and anyone who likes netball, so they can enter a league together and work as a ‘team’. His aim is that people will reconsider their opinion of Christians, who are usually considered boring, dull and a little bit odd, and hopefully people will begin to recognise that Christians can have fun and enjoy themselves (although some are still a little odd!).

AWAX Security is a local company run by Mark Poulton. Mark has been working in this industry for many years serving clients such as Gwen Stefani, Oasis, Eminem and attending major sporting and musical events throughout the UK. He has close links with Portsmouth Football Club and Mark is interested in how Christianity can make a difference to others, using sport as a platform. He has many questions, but can see the positive results from the likes of Linvoy Primus, Andy Griffen, Andy O’Brien and Lomana Lua Lua who established ‘Faith and Football’ to help young people in the UK and abroad. Mark is a successful business man and is proud to be part-sponsoring a netball club along with Eastleigh Baptist Church and Cornerstone Building Services.

Eastleigh Baptist Church is a vibrant, mainstream Baptist Church situated in the middle of the town. The Church Minister is Martin Poole, whose daughter plays in one of the Cornerstone teams. The Church is committed to the service of Christ within the local community, and making relevant to the 21st century the message of Jesus Christ. Sunday worship to which all are invited is a mixture of old and new, reflecting the broad age range of the church. There is a diverse and very active range of sporting groups within the church, including netball, football, cricket etc. “We are grateful of this opportunity to be able to promote Christianity in Sport at the Southampton Netball League – All the best girls!”

Conduct As a member of the Cornerstone Netball Club, we would ask that all players play ‘in the spirit of the game’ and you should respect your team mates, opponents and umpires (even if you do not agree with them!!) Cornerstone would like to win trophies, but win or lose the team aspires to be known throughout the league for its clean and fair play. As with most team sponsors, we are using this opportunity as a form of ‘advertising’ for our organisation, while wearing your kit you are ultimately helping us promote our company/organisation name. Therefore, we would be grateful if you could act in a manner that fairly represents us - we encourage fair play and reasonable behaviour etc. It is every team members’ responsibility to encourage their team mates accordingly.

We hope you all enjoy, have fun and do well in your league this season! Keep safe and keep in touch, let us know how you are doing as we are interested in how you are getting on. Best wishes and blessings, Jez, Mark and Martin
